Like many of you, I’ve been trying to find the best hair straightening brush / electric hair brush on the market. One of the issues is that this product has so many names such as LCD hair brush, ceramic hair straightening brush, electric hair brush, hair straightening brush, Apalus brush, Dafni Brush, LittleBlack Hairbrush, Acevivi brush, and Simply Straight brush. This makes it even more confusing when trying to find reviews and product information because there are so many names. I’m one of those shoppers that do TONS of research to make sure that I am buying the best product on the market. So what did I do, I tried them all! Since information about these products are not easily accessible, I’d thought I would share via this blog the information that I’ve compiled on these products. Hopefully this information will also allow you to make the best decision on buying your next hair straightener.
The big brands that makes these wonderful products are Dafni, LittleBlack Hairbrush, Apalus, and Acevivi. These are the major brands, at least at the time of me writing this blog post. I will be sure to add more brands to the list below as I find and review them. It is safe to say that if they are not on this list then I consider them a Generic/Chinese knockoff. Here is a list of the Major players along with information about their company.
Dafni seemed to have been the first one on the market with their product. According to their website, a father and daughter designed the original brush in their basement. I saw a viral video on Facebook a few months ago that introduced me to the concept of the electric hair brush. So, at least to me, Dafni is the original creator of this product.
Apalus seems to be another major brand on the market. Apalus definitely has a strong presence on Amazon as well as their hair straightening brush has been featured on many internet blogs. This product was easy to purchase on 3rd party websites however, I was unable to find a website for the manufacture. Therefore, I’m not sure of the company history and what other products they sell. I did see on another website the Apalus manufactures other medical products and accessories.
I stumbled upon LittleBlack company a while back when they only sold scarves that was designed to stay on all night and protect your hair while you sleep. When I saw their product on Amazon, I was pleasantly surprised that they were selling electronic hair brushes since I had a good experience with them in the past. They too seem to have a strong reputation in the electronic hairbrush market and is a top seller on Amazon.
Avevivi is a pretty big beauty product manufacture. I see tons of products for them on Amazon and other websites. However, like Apalus, they don’t have an official website so I don’t know much about the company.
Mousand – Hair Straightener
Mousand is also a pretty big beauty product manufacture with tons of products manufactured by them that is sold on Amazon and other websites. However, like Apalus and Acevivi, they don’t have an official website so I don’t know much about the company. I am assuming that they don’t to much direct to consumer selling otherwise, they would have a website.
Simply Straight – Hair Straightener
Simply Straight just came on the market and is selling direct to consumer from their website. I could order this product in time for the review however, from the looks of their website I am skeptical about the quality. I associate anything being sold on the late night TV commercials with something that is made as cheap as possible to sell to the masses. I could be wrong but I cant find any other reviews on this product to get a feel of the quality. I post a more detailed review as soon as I get mine in.
I ordered a electronic hair brush from each manufacture during my evaluation process. I then compared all of these major brands to each other within the following categories.
I then selected a winner based upon a point system that was allocated to each brand based upon how they fared on each category. I will share with you the results of what I found and how I came to the conclusion of the best brand to date. Keep in mind I will continue to evaluate new brands that I find in the future. Therefore, the winner could change in the future. Lets get started…
Winner – Dafni
Out of all of the electric hairbrushes that I’ve tried, the clear winner in the category is Dafni. All of the other major brands use similar designs and Dafni is the only one with a unique design out of the group. In my opinion, the brush is absolutely beautiful. You can tell that tons of thought was put into the design from the way the power button lights up, to the awesome drawer box that comes with the box. The Dafni brush was no match for the other major brands when it comes to design and was the clear winner.
Apalus, Acevivi, Muosand, and LittleBlack Hairbrush all had similar designs. In fact, other than small changes, the brushes are of identical design. One thing that I did find about the LittleBlack Hairbrush compared to all of the others was the packaging was of a better quality. It also came with a drawer box as well. However, again, there is no comparison to the design of Dafni and LittleBlack Hairbrush and the rest wasn’t even close.
Winner – Dafni
Dafni again wins this category. The quality of this brush is amazing. As I stated before they did put allot of thought into making this a great product. The screws are cleverly hidden within the bristles where as the other brands had them slightly outside the bristles. Holding the Dafni brush in my hand just felt better compared to using the other brands. Dafni’s design and build quality is just the best on the market, hands down.
Out of the rest of the major brands, LittleBlack Hairbrush had a slight edge again over the rest. Even though from at first glance it looks like the other brushes, when using it you can tell it was manufactured by a better factory. The LCD screen was more vibrant and easier to read. The product seems more durable than the rest. The buttons were easier to press. For those reasons, the LittleBlack Hairbrush came in second.
Winner – LittleBlack Hairbrush
I was sure that Dafni was going to win this category again due to the design and quality characteristics of the brush. However, I was surprised how well the LittleBlack Hairbrush performed in this category. The heat output between the Dafni and LittleBlack Hairbrush was similar. My hair appeared to be straighten the fastest with these two brushes. The only reason LittleBlack hair brush wins in this category was that the heat up time was a tad faster than Dafni. The LittleBlack hairbrush wins this category by a nose.
The performance I got out of Apalus, Acevivi and Mousand was not what I expected. The heat up time was way longer than Dafni and LittleBlack Hairbrush. Also, the red insulators on these brushes kept catching my hair and on the Mousand, they actually came off! Plus these brushes also seemed heavier when using as well.
Winner – LittleBlack Hairbrush
I am the type of woman that puts a lot of weight on companies that can not just sell me a product, but take care of me when something goes wrong. LittleBlack Hairbrush was the clear winner in this categories due to a number of reasons. For one, they are the only brand that you can chat with a sales person directly from their website. They also have a forum and contact information on their website if you need to get assistance from them with their product. For these reasons, I felt that there was an army of people at LittleBlack company that was ready to assist me.
Dafni won second place by default as none of the other electric hairbrush brands had a website or easy to find contact information. The only way to contact Dafni was through submitting your contact information via their website.
Winner – Acevivi – Digital Anti Static Ceramic Hair Straightener Heating Detangling Brush
Acevivi was the cheapest out of all of the brushes that I purchased. I was able to purchase this brush for $28 on Amazon. Even though the cheapest is not always the best, I have to pick Acevivi as the winner in this category due to them being the lowest price our of all of them.
Everyone else other than Dafni came in between $39 and $59. Dafni cost me a whopping $300 for the brush! Again, the brush is gorgeous but, the price from other brands makes if harder to justify dropping this much cash on Dafni.
Winner – LittleBlack Hairbrush and Apalus – Hair Straightener
I put this category in because due to the huge demand for electric hair brushes it was a challenge ordering these brushes. Dafni was damn near impossible to find one in stock, Acevivi and Mousand kept going in and out of stock. LittleBlack Hairbrush and Aplaus were the ones that had consistent supply to meet demand. Also, they are both available on amazon prime so I was able to order them with next day shipping.
Winner – LittleBlack Hairbrush
I chose LittleBlack Hairbrush as the winner due to the quality, performance, price, and support. This brush in my opinion held the most value. Dafni came in a very close second but the price is just too high for a typical consumer. Maybe Dafni’s niche is for salons and hair professional. Again, even though Dafni is better made, LittleBlack hairbrush was right behind Dafni in all of the categories that Dafni was with winner in. I love both product so I will put links to buy both below. I hope this was helpful to you all and I thank you for reading my extremely long blog post!
